Valve Cover Race!

WHAT THE HECK IS A VALVE COVER COMPETITION?

The valve cover construction/speed competition that has become very popular around the world is now happening at Bug In Finn!

The aim is to build your own racer out of a VW valve cover and participate in the noble competition of fastest downhill racing. In addition to the fastest valve cover, the best racers will also be awarded in the categories “People’s Choice” and “Jury’s Favorite”.

COMPETITION RULES

GENERAL

1) This is a playful competition. Too serious racers will be the target of public ridicule.

2) The judge’s decisions are final. Bribery is allowed.

3) Competitors are allowed to wear their own racing gear, helmets, goggles, fire-resistant overalls or other racing equipment of their choice. However, this is at their own risk. The organizer does not take responsibility for being ridiculed.

VALVE COVER STRUCTURE REGULATIONS

4) The frame of the racer must be a recognizable Volkswagen valve cover. All racers must have four wheels.

5) All engines and auxiliary devices that accelerate the speed are prohibited. Competitors move only and exclusively by the force of gravity.

6) Dimensions and weight. Cars are inspected before the race and the jury will disqualify the car (without the right to appeal) if it does not meet the conditions.

Length – max 40.0cm

Width – max 20.0cm

Height – max 20.0cm

Wheel diameter max 13.0cm

Weight – max 3.6kg

7) Sponsor logos, race stickers, car names and “driver” are recommended, but not mandatory.

8) Spoilers, wings, other air deflectors and overhangs are permitted, as long as the maximum dimensions mentioned above are not exceeded. These are unlikely to be of significant benefit in the competition itself, but they will give us a good laugh.

COMPETITION

The competition will be held in one-on-one matches using the Drag Race eliminator scheme. If the number of participating cars is large, preliminary qualifying can be held before the eliminator starts.

1) The competition will be run as a pair start on a declining track.

2) The race will start with the front wheels behind the starting line. The competitor whose front wheels cross the finish line first is the winner. If neither competitor makes it to the finish line, the winner is the one that has advanced further.

3) A false start will automatically result in the competitor being disqualified. The jury’s decision cannot be appealed.

4) A competitor who drives off the track will be disqualified, the other competitor will be the winner.

So, now there is nothing else to do but build your own competitor as soon as possible! Let the coolest, fastest or the most ridiculous cover win!
